Digital marketing with international flavor and hometown feel

Kangadillo Gets Creative With Holiday Party

December 15, 2017 By Scott Vann

Nothing is impossible in a connected world – and we plan to prove it!

Sometimes, the simplest solutions can be the most beautiful of all. | CC

When you’re working with a digital marketing agency you need a team of people who are creative. People who are willing to think outside the box and try new things. Sometimes the tried and true is good, but sometimes tried and true is not quite cutting it and needs fresh perspective.

That said, we never recommend anything we don’t personally use and find to be a valuable asset to our business.

At Kangadillo we’re a virtual agency. I’m based in Dallas, Texas, US. Sha is based on Kangaroo Island, South Australia, AU. And we have friends, clients, and business associates literally around the globe. So the traditional office Christmas party just wasn’t an option for us.

I hadn’t given a holiday party even a thought given the circumstance, but one day Sha said “I have an idea for an office Christmas party.” I sat down, strapped on my seat belt, and said “I’m listening.” Then she said, “Let’s have a virtual Christmas party via Zoom.”

For those who haven’t come across it, Zoom is our current favorite multi-user video messaging platform. It seems to always work. No one seems to have trouble getting on. Unlike our experiences with Google Hangouts and Skype. If you haven’t tried Zoom we highly recommend it.

Of course, I loved Sha’s idea, and in just a few minutes the two of us had teased out this concept of “Get your own drink, get your own snack, and click the link to join us.” We set the date and time. Monday, December 18, 2:30 – 5:30pm CST. I setup the Zoom meeting. We, but mostly Sha, created our list of invites, then sent out an Evite invitation to over 100 people.

Now we’re anxiously waiting to see who will show up. Sha is already grinning from ear to ear at the prospect of catching up with some dear friends who have already said they will drop in. I’m pretty sure she’s baking cookies, even though we haven’t quite figured out a virtual solution for that yet 😉

We invited Jill from Lockhart Smokehouse in Dallas but she had to decline.

ha!! Smell-o-vision doesn’t work well yet!!!

If you didn’t get an invitation yet and don’t want to wait for us to find the right email address or chase you down on twitter, help us out by contacting us and we’ll send the link your way. It’s going to be fun.

It’s an outside the box solution and that’s our favorite kind!
